We are all going through an extremely stressful time right now with the Covid-19 pandemic and nothing is looking very positive. Especially now it is even more important to continue to practice healthy habits and self-care that will positively benefit you mentally and physically. Unfortunately, many gyms have been shutting their doors as a precaution during this very difficult time. However, it is still very important to keep some sort of healthy routine and sense of normalcy. Here are some ways on how to stay active during this pandemic:

Go On A Walk

If the sun is shining go for a walk or run and enjoy the outdoors. Especially during these stressful days it is important to take a minute and a breathe and go for a walk around the block. Walking has been linked to lowering stress levels and improving mood by stimulating neurotransmitters in the brain that helps improve your mental state. It will also help with improving your cardiorespiratory systems. Going on a walk doesn’t seem so hard and the benefits will help lower your BMI, help reduce stress, and lengthen your life.

In-Home Workouts

With gyms shutting their doors, most of us are going to have to work out at home. As an In-Home trainer myself you do not need a lot of space to have a great workout. Whether you prefer a gentle yoga or a calorie burning intense workout you can do it all in the comfort of your own home. Go online or on YouTube and find an in-home workout that fits for you. If you don’t know what to do, hire a Certified Personal Trainer that comes to you. You don’t need crazy expensive equipment to get the best workouts, you just need you and a positive mind.

Online Training

Online training is super hot right now. Online training offers you the ability of your own Personal Trainer at a reduced rate wherever and whenever with customized workouts right at your finger tips. Many online trainers are not certified so be aware of what and who you are purchasing. Find an online trainer that you connect with and like their personal approach and purchase a custom workout while you are at home.

Build Yourself a Standing Workplace

If you are working from home during these next few weeks build yourself a standing workplace so you can stay active during the day. Either add risers to add extra height to an existing desk or pull some books and put your laptop on top of them to your eye level while standing. Most of us sit too much during the day. While you're at home and have the control, it is helpful to build a standing workplace so you can get your steps in throughout the day.

Take the Stairs

If you live in an apartment or condominium for the next couple weeks try taking the stairs whenever coming or going. If you live in a house with stairs, add a few extra times per day of going up and down. This will help you stay active and short bouts of climbing stairs can make a huge difference in your cardiorespiratory fitness. Also right now elevators are not recommended for social distancing. This is a win win. Stay active and stay healthy.

It is important to stay positive and calm during these times. We all need to stay as healthy as possible and listen to the health professionals but don’t forget about your personal wellbeing at this time either. If your gym or health club is closed for the next few weeks try one of these other ways to stay active during this pandemic. It is super important to continue to focus on your mental and physical health even more at this point. It will get better. Stay Strong!
